With the popularity of the web at an all time high, it is being used for so many things! With this in mind, users can often subscribe to receive updates on offers and news, or during the checkout process at websites and not always remember that they have done so. A few days, weeks or even months later, an email pops into your inbox from the website and immediately the user can think it is spam or not recall giving out their email address. However, please spare a moment before hitting the spam button! It may seem harmless enough but once done, if only a tiny number of other users do the same (around 1 in every 1000) then your Internet Service Provider (or ISP) can ban the sender for good from sending to any more of its subscribers who use the same ISP.

This can be devastating to a genuine email marketing company, who have compiled a genuine list through offline work or subscriptions at their website. Of course, I am not suggesting to never use this button. In some cases, it is more than justified, when emails for illegitimate pharmaceuticals or adult material come along. However, just take a second and think if there is any chance you may have signed up at some point before hitting the spam button in your email client. If you have, or you are looking for an alternative, just use the unsubscribe option. This is usually made apparent in the email and you can always re-subscribe at a further date if you wanted to. Either way, unsubscribing removes you safely from the list , prevents any further emails and is a lot kinder to the email sender!
